6-month MOT exemptions will be ending 1 August

If your MOT is due on or after 1 August 2020 you will need to book and get an MOT for your vehicle as usual.

The government recently announced that the 6-month MOT exemptions for cars, vans and motorcycles introduced during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, will end on 1 August 2020.

This exemption which came into effect on 30th March 2020 granted a 6-Month extension to all UK MOT’s that were due between 30 March and 31 July 2020.

MOT due on or after 1 August 2020?

Your MOT certificate will not be extended if your vehicle's MOT expires on or after 1 August 2020. You MUST book an MOT as usual.

You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.

Example: If your MOT runs out on 3 August, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 4 July.

Please call us on 01730 266 911 to book your MOT

Customers with MOT’s due prior to 1 August will still have their MOT extended by 6-months under the scheme.

However, customers who’s MOTs fall during the 6-month exemption period under the covid-19 scheme can still get an MOT, if they wish to do so, along with other repairs & servicing, and we are still offering tests to customers who would prefer to keep their vehicle history intact, or who do not want the risk of forgetting to MOT their vehicle at the end of their MOT’s extension period.

We also wish to remind customers who have had their MOT extended by the 6-month exemption scheme that the government has advised that they MUST maintain the roadworthiness of their vehicle and that garages are open for servicing and essential repair work and that drivers will face prosecution if they are caught driving unsafe vehicles. So please do not forget your servicing schedule and any other essential repairs. Please also remember to do basic checks on your vehicle before every journey to make sure that it is safe and roadworthy, especially if it has been sat for a period of time.

During your visit to the Garage:

Internally, we are supporting our employees to work as safely as possible. They have all been clearly briefed about safe working practices including distancing, hand washing, use of protective equipment, antibacterial substances and are aware that they are to self-isolate where they show symptoms, or have been in close contact with anyone who is or has been unwell with covid-19 symptoms. We have also erected safety screens and implemented other safety measures to help protect both our employees and customers.

On every Vehicle Repair, Service or MOT that we undertake we will always:
- Use protective coverings for seats and upholstery as required.
- Wear gloves at all times whilst working and use a clean pair for each vehicle worked on.
- Use anti-bacterial gels, wipes and sanitisers frequently and between each job we undertake.

We kindly ask all our customers to:
- Observe signage and stand at least 2 metres away from other customers and staff in our reception area.
- Use the anti-bacterial hand gels and hand washing facilities provided when entering and leaving the building.
- Not to bring their car in for MOT, Service, or repair if they feel unwell or have been in close contact with anyone who is or has been unwell with covid-19 symptoms.
